Overview of childcare services for employees and students

Since 1st August 2013, there has been a legal entitlement to a childcare place for children from the age of one. This legal entitlement can be fulfilled by a childcare place in a daycare centre or in daycare - i.e. with a childminder (Tagesmutter).

The City of Hannover offers parents a registration portal where they can find out about the childcare options in Hannover and register their child for crèche places, kindergarten places or after-school care places. In order to meet the demand for childcare places for children under the age of three, many parents initiatives have also been founded in Hannover and have set up childcare facilities themselves.
Many of these facilities are located in the immediate vicinity of Leibniz Universität.

To complement the municipal offer, Leibniz Universität provides employees and students with company places for children aged 1-3 years in three different facilities. Parents can apply directly to these facilities if they are interested. Parents can find out how to apply directly on the websites of the three facilities:

The allocation of places with the three institutions takes place in agreement between the institution and the family service of Leibniz Universität Hannover.

Leibniz Kids offers all employees and students of Leibniz Universität Hannover back-up care for children up to the age of 12. The back-up care supports parents in all bottlenecks, from the illness of the childminder to bridging important learning and examination phases with flexible childcare. It is also available when a business trip is planned or when longer meetings are foreseeable. The offer also applies to employees who take part in events in the  Personnel development – training and qualification programme. It can also be used by doctoral candidates and postdocs who are taking part in courses offered by the Graduate Academy.

You will receive a childcare guarantee if you book childcare until 6.00 pm the day before.

Leibniz Universität Hannover is a Fluxx partner and offers its students and employees Fluxx emergency childcare. Fluxx provides emergency childcare for children aged 0 to 13, arranges caregivers at short notice in the family's household or an outside childcare service and driving services. Fluxx helps, for example, in the event of unforeseen work peaks, delays after business trips, sudden illness, accidents or one-time shortages during parent/guardian training (e.g. when attending events in the staff development programme or the graduate academy programme).

Who are the Fluxx experts?

The support staff all have educational and nursing knowledge and training. They bring many years of professional and life experience with children. Both the driving service and the emergency caregivers legitimise themselves with a project ID card.

Costs:

• the counselling is free of charge
• Through Leibniz University's partnership with Fluxx, one hour of childcare costs 3 euros for LUH employees.
• Through the partnership of the Studentenwerk Hannover with Fluxx, one hour of childcare for LUH students costs 2 euros.
• Please state your employee or student status when booking. Without a Fluxx partnership, one hour of care costs 5 euros.
• Driving services without supervision are charged according to kilometres.

Visiting students and researchers who come to Leibniz Universität Hannover from abroad with their children can use the childcare service Back-Up at Leibniz-Kids for a transitional period of up to 40 days. The Back-Up is subject to a fee and depends on your income according to the remuneration table of the city of Hanover and ranges between approx. 50 and 305 euros plus lunch money.

Leibniz Universität Hannover provides childcare for conferences and public events in institutes and research facilities. Groups of children (max. 12 children) are looked after by the hour.

For registration, please compile a document with the following information:

•     Name of the event
•     Date and time of the event
•     Amount of childcare required (from - to)
•     Responsible contact person at LUH (name, institute/institution, contact details)

For each child to be looked after:

•     Name of parents
•     Name of the child
•     Date of birth of the child
•     Address of parents
•     Telephone

The University Sports Department (Zentrum für Hochschulsport) offers holiday care for children of employees and students of LUH aged 6-16.
